Education and Training

As is the case with anyone, my work and approach is informed by my education, training and experience. I have a bachelor’s degree from Wellesley College, and a doctoral degree in clinical psychology (concentration in behavioral medicine and psychoneuroimmunology) from the University of Miami. I think like a researcher which has been honed with an additional 7 years of conducting research in Public Health and Public Policy (Abt Associates) and in Behavioral Medicine (Psychology Department at the University of Miami).

I am also influenced by Eastern cultures. At different periods over the last 35 years, I have practiced Tai Chi, Kung Fu, yoga and mindful meditation. I traveled and studied in Southeast Asia for one year learning about traditional approaches to health and healing.

My training in mindfulness includes an 8 week professional practicum in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) at UMASS , an intensive training in mindful eating (MB-EAT), 10 day Vipassana retreat, shorter retreats, and personal practice.

I was a staff psychologist at the University of Miami Counseling Center for 8 years.
